Golf Notes - 24 September 2013

Last Saturday 22 keen golfers turned up to play a single stroke event for club trophies. Bob Werne came to life with a very impressive 64 nett to claim the major prize.

Women

Coralie Volgyesi again won the Thursday competition with 36 Stableford points this time from Vicki Wyeth on 32 points.  This week we play a stableford with our best nine to count.

Helen Ricciardi scored an impressive 69 nett to claim the club trophy on Saturday from Joan Wright.  Cynthia was unable to play the final of the Nash Bowl matchplay, so congratulations go to Joy Cartner on reaching the final and claiming the trophy.

This Saturday the Commonwealth Bank is sponsoring a two person Ambrose, the first in quite a while.  We hope for a strong turnout to play for the trophies and enjoy a tasty after game snack.

Mens

Last Saturday 22 keen golfers turned up to play a single stroke event for club trophies.  Bob Werne came to life with a very impressive 64 nett to claim the major prize.

You can only imagine the look on Brett Martell's face as he wrote his score of 65 nett on the board feeling pretty good about himself to see he was beaten by just 1 stroke!  There were 5 rundowns all with scores of 70 nett.  These were Clinton Dowling, Ed Connell, Len Stallard and Ray Walker.

Pin shots were won by Ray Walker, Helen Ricciardi, Clinton Dowling and Brett Martell.

This Saturday is a Commonwealth Bank sponsored day.  The format will be a two person ambrose.

This is a golden opportunity for members to bring along a mate who has always wanted to have a hit at golf but didn't know who to play with.  There will be plenty of prizes and food to share after the game, so please come along and have a great afternoon on the fairways.  Hit off at 12:30pm with names in by 12:15pm.

Vets

Rusty Usmar with 40 Stableford points held off the field to be the outright winner of the single stableford competition held on Tuesday, the second time in recent weeks.

In B Division, Bob Werne won with 39 points from Kev Denham on 38 points, on a countback from Bob Champney who was 2nd runner up.  Len Stallard won the best nine with 21 points.  Approach winners were Ray Walker (in the hole) and Joy Cartner.

The nine hole chook run winners were: Phil Luckett and Bob Champney (nett 30), Bob Carne, Larry Pershouse, Bob Werne, Kev Denham and Michael Stantion (33 nett) on a spin.

To start the new month off on October 01 we play a single stableford (again).  See you there for the 12 noon hit off.  Remember the Captain's reminder about time.  All the best to the Gayndah trippers!

Social Golf Club

Last Sunday, we played a stroke event and putt over the back nine, with some very impressive scores being recorded.

The best score of 30 nett was carded by Di Rapley and Bill Long with Di winning on a countback.  Third was Dave Hills with 31 nett.  Dave had a highly successful day winning the pin on 4 & 13, with a shot that got him the golden circle as well.  To top it off he also won the nearest the pin with his shot on 6 & 15.

Bob Fraser claimed the A Grade pinshot on 1 & 10 while Len Stallard won the B Grade Approach.  Longest drives went to Bob Fraser in A Grade and Adam Smith (again) in B Grade.  Col Dennett recorded 12 putts to win the least number there.

This Sunday morning we play a 'Reverse Mulligan' over the front nine.  Check for the away trips coming soon and in particular put your name down for our Christmas trip to Hervey Bay.
