Isis Veterans Golf Association Story
The 'Vets'began with an inaugural meeting on 13 July 1991. Ron Mammino was the first President, May Brain the first Secretary and Noel Powell the first Captain. Arthur Brain became the first Treasurer in 1993. There were initally 30 members.
In 1994 Tuesday became the weekly competition day. The fee was set to $2 and Vets had to be members of the main club.
Over the years, 18 holes became the normal competition, with stableford, stroke, 4BBB and 2 person Ambrose events being the most popular. A chook run is run as part of every Tuesday competition, and a raffle and presentations are held at close of play. Each month there is a VIP (Veterans Isis Players) day, which is a single stroke event sponsored by individual members or a group of memers each month. Monthly winners play to become the VIP of VIP's winner at the end of the year
Players also complete for 2 annual trophies. The Ray Bunn Memorial Trophy, which is a stroke competition played over 6 rounds, with the best 3 to count, and the Mammino Gourmet Ice Cream Cup, which is a stableford competition played over 2 rounds.
Throughout the years, the Vets have contributed generously to the main club, starting in 1993 with $300 for a membership board, and this tradition continues to the present day. There have been many stalwarts in the Isis Vets Club, with some staying in office for several years. Many others 'do their bit' when necessary, especially on Carnival Days and during working bees, which are vital for the course maintenance. The Isis Vets form a strong part of the entire Isis Golf Club.
