Isis Veterans Golf Association Story
The 'Vets'began with an inaugural meeting on 13 July 1991. Ron Mammino was the first President, May Brain the first Secretary and Noel Powell the first Captain. Arthur Brain became the first Treasurer in 1993. There were initally 30 members.
The Vets replaced a very popular Wednesday afternoon 9 hole chook run organised by Arthur Brain, and though this stayed as an Isis Club event for all comers as before, the competition for Vets was 18 holes every second Wednesday, with 13 or 14 holes on the othe Wednesdays.
In 1994 Tuesday became the weekly competition day. The fee was set to $2 and Vets had to be members of the main club. Chooks and balls were and still are the weekly prizes.
Over the years 18 holes has become the norm, with stableford the most popular event. Players also compete for 2 annual trophies - the Jan Mungomery Salver, a stroke competition, with the best nett score over 3 of 6 rounds to count and the Frank Cooper Cup - a par competition over 2 rounds.
This year (2013) a new monthly competition has been introduced. The VIP (Veteran Isis Players) Monthly Stroke competition which has so far been sponsored by individual members or a group of members. It is proving very popular and highly competitive.
Throughout the years the Vets have contributed generously to the main club, starting in 1993 with $300 for a membership board. Over the years the Vets have contributed to the finances and equipment for the main club, as well as benefitting the bar takings. Apart from these aspects the Vets serve on the main committee and turn up in force for working bees.
There have been many stalwarts in the Vets Club, with some staying in office for several years, and many others doing their bit (and more) when necessary, especially on Carnival Days and on working bees which are vital for course maintenance. The Isis Vets Club forms a strong part of the entire Isis Golf Club.
Isis Vets home competitions are held every Tuesday with hit off at 12 noon sharp! Competitions are held:
