Golf Notes 01 July 2014

Coralie Volgyesi recorded 37 stableford points to win the Thursday morning competition. Rose Cochrane was runner up on 35 points.

Women

Coralie Volgyesi recorded 37 stableford points to win the Thursday morning competition.  Rose Cochrane was runner up on 35 points.

On Saturday members joined with the men for the Blake Dowling Day and results are in the men's notes.  The Monthly Goblet for July will be held this Thursday.

The Ladies' Foursomes Championships played on Sunday resulted in a win for Helen Ricciardi and Fiona Dowling with a gross score of 140 for the 27 holes.  Joan Wright and Robyn Robinson being runners up on 147.

Joan Kelly and Monica Madsen won the 27 hole nett trophy with a score of 115 from Sue Long and Vicki McAulay on 119.  Joy Cartner and Marg Dennett won the 18 hole nett.

Approach shots were won by Robyn and Joan on 1 & 10, Monica and Joan on 4 & 13 and Val Plath and Cynthia Draper on 6 & 15.

Members enjoyed their after game snack and conversation.

This Saturday is Monthly Goblet Day. Please bring a plate and your best game.

Men

A busy weekend for golfers with Blake Dowling comined Isis and Social Clubs two person Ambrose stroke event on Saturday and the Foursomes Championships on Sunday.

On Saturday, the rain kept some players away but a goodly number completed the round, with Clinton Dowling and Curtis Fredriksen winning with a nett score of 62.5 ahead of Dave and Robyn Robinson on 64.25, both excellent scores in testing conditions.

Mark and Vicki McAulay were third, scoring 66 nett and Ivan Philpott and Roger Draper next on 67.25.  Rundowns went to Brett Martell and John Hinton, Chris Fitzsimmons and Bob Fraser and Bill Herring and Paul McCarragher.

Curtis also put his approach in the hole on 1 & 10 and 4 & 13, as did Paul Mc on 1 & 10.

Members enjoyed the BBQ supper provided and prepared by members of the Childers District Social Golf Club.

In the Foursomes Championships, players hit off at 11:00am in sunny conditions, with players in by 4:00pm.  Peter Hrelja and Peter Steel combined well to score 123 gross over the 27 holes and win comfortably from Ray Walker and Mark McAulay on 134.

Bob Champney and Len Stallard played well to win the nett trophy with a score of 107 from Col Dennett and Ray Burrows on 108.75.  Ray Walker and Mark McAulay also won the approach on 4 & 13, while Phil Luckett and Nigel Radin restored some pride winning the approach on 1 & 10.

This Saturday we play for the July Monthly Medal. Please bring the usual plate for after the game.

Vets

The chilly wind did not stop a large contingent of Vets arrive for the 18 hole single stableford competition and the 9 hole chook run, with many fine scores being achieved.

Vicki McAulay was the overall winner with a score of 40 points, while Norm Plath won A Division with his score of 38 points from Phil Luckett on 37.  Pity about the ticket Norm!  Barry Steinke was 2nd runner up on 35 and Dave Robinson won best nine holes with 21 points.

Mark McAulay scored 39 points to win B Division from Len Stallard on 38, with Bob Champney 2nd runner up.  Rose Cochrane won best nine holes with 22 points.

Kev Savage put his second shot in the hole to win the men's approach, while Val Plath won the women's approach a little further away from the hole.

Chook Run winners were led by Rose Cochrane with nett 28 from Val Plath, Norm Plath and Vicki McAulay on 30, with Dave Robinson and Len Stallard collecting the last 2 chickens on 31 nett! What scores!

Next week, July 8 we play a fourball stableford, draw for partners or secret partners.
