Women

Vicki McAulay began the golfing week well on Thursday teaming up with Joan Wright to win the 4BBB stableford with 44 points, from Vicki Wyeth and Rose Cochrane on a countback.

Vicki followed this up by winning the Saturday Monthly Goblet with a nett score of 68, from Joy Cartner on 70 who also collected the approach trophy.  Rundowns went to Fiona Dowling on 72 and Helen Ricciardi and Cynthia Draper on 73 on a countback from Rae McCliskie.

Next Thursday is our last chance to win a Monthly Goblet for 2013. The following Thursday we visit Coral Cove to enjoy a game there.

This Saturday we join with the men in a single stableford competition sponsored by Childers Pharmacy under the guidance of Andrew Heathcock.

Mens

The November Monthly Medal was played last Saturday with 31 men trying to claim a medal for 2013 before the year ends.

In A Grade local pest hero Trevor Dann blew the flies away with a pretty impressive 65 nett with lucky Phil close behind on 66 nett.

It was a different story in B Grade with Larry Pershouse posting a score of 63 nett and looking like the cat that swallowed the canary, when cool as a cucumber Paul McCarragher hands in a 57 nett to have everyone give him a special round of applause.  Most golfers were amazed he kept his cool, none  more than the group following, as there was a bit of a misunderstanding about who should have been on which fairway!

Rundowns went to Neale Mittelheuser, Bill Herring, Ken Albion, Mark McAulay, Travis Mittelheuser and Jack Smith.  Ozzie Philpott claimed his usual pin shot as did Bill Herring and Mark McAulay.

This Saturday is a single Stableford, kindly sponsored by Andrew Heathcock from Footes Pharmacy.  Hit off at 12:30 sharp with names in by 12:15.

A friendly reminder that our end of year Calcutta and presentation night is on Friday 29 November.  Please put this date in your diary.

Vets

Len Stallard offered the standout performance of the day with 40 points in the single stableford competition, his score giving him the overall leadership position and trophy.

Barry Steinke's 38 won him the A Division from new member Mark McAulay on 36, with Larry Pershouse easily the best nine hole winner with 24 points.

Val Plath was the B Division winner on 37 points (returned to life again!), from Rae McCliskie on a countback, with Jack Smith saving some male dignity winning the best nine holes with 21 points.

The approaches went to returnee Bill Cowan with his second shot in the hole, while Rose Cochrane put her approach nearest the pin for the women.

Chook Run winners were: Ron Denny, Larry Pershouse, Len Stallard (31 nett). Barry Steinke (32) and Phil Luckett (34) on a s spin from 4 others. Lucky Phil!

Members 'bring a plate' meant there was more than enough food for a tasty lunch break to watch the cup and an after game snack as well.  Many thanks to all.

Next week is the long awaited 2nd round of par competition for the Cooper Cup.  See you there for a 12 noon hit off.

Juniors

Last weekend was a Stableford compeition for the 9 hole players and a stroke round for the six holers, played over 7 holes.  The nine hole event was won by Curtis Fredriksen with 20 stableford points.  This was two under his handicap.  Curtis has played consistently all year and is getting close to developing into an 18 hole player.  Well done Curtis!

Second place was tied with Cooper Burns and Christian Fredriksen both scoring 14 points.

In the other event held over seven holes Wesley Hinton had a blinder with a gross 39 for the seven holes and won the event by four shots from Damon Carige.  Least putts went to Amara Burns.  there is only three weeks of junior golf left for the year.  This weekend will be the end of Chip and Putt competition.  This is very close in the nine holers with Curtis and Christian Fredriksen both being on 50 with Zane Fitzgerald only one shot behind on 51.  It will make for a very exciting finish.

All play starts at 7:30am this Saturday.

Social

Although a smaller number of Biggenden players than expected arrived for the 2nd round of our annual challenge, a strong field of Childers players meant stiff competition to win the 2 person Ambrose event.

The first three places went to local pairs: Andrew Heathcock and Ken Albion managed to beat par by one shot and return a nett 60, just .05 ahead of Mick Ryan and Paul McCarragher, with Len Stallard and Bill Long another shot back to claim third placing.

The visitors collected some of the remaining prizes, while locals shared the rest.  Mick Ryan was nearest the pin on 4 & 13, Bob Champney nearest the pin on 6, Ken Albion winning the approach on 15, and Terry Smallman winning the approach with an Eagle on 7 & 16.

This Sunday is our annual Cancer Appearl Day with all monies collected being donated to Movember.  The competition is a single stroke and putt.
