Golf Notes 15 July 2014

Vicki Wyeth won the single stableford Thursday competition with 38 points from Vicky McAulay on 35, with Margaret Dennett winning a rundown on 34 points. Joan Kelly won the aproach. This Thursday we play a single stroke competition.

Women

Vicky Wyeth won the single stableford Thursday competition with 38 points from Vicki McAulay on 35, with Margaret Dennett winning a rundown on 34 points.  Joan Kelly won the aproach.  This Thursday we play a single stroke competition.

On Saturday in the Club sponsored single stableford Joy Cartner also scored 38 points to win on a countback from Val Plath, with a rundown to Vicki McAulay on 36 points.  Joan Kelly won the best nine holes with 20 points and also the approach on 1 & 10.

Men

Members enjoyed a single stableford competition in place of the postponed President vs Captain Matchplay.

In A Division Brett took first place with 37 points from Craig Reynolds on 36, with a rundown to Bill Herring.  Will Martell scored the best nine holes with 22 points.

With three players on 40 points in B Division, Ivan Philpott won on a countback from Frank Rockett with Ken Albion then taking one rundown and Bob Werne the other with 39 points.

Norm Plath won the A Division pintshot on 1 & 10 and Craig Reynolds on 4 & 13.  In B Division Ken Albion won the approach on 1 & 10, and Travis Mittelheuser the pinshot on 4 & 13.

Next week is the Bil & Jan Kinston sponsored day with the competition to be single stableford.

Vets

This Tuesday the Woodgate crew invited all members to play in the July VIP stroke competition, which they were delighted to sponsor.  In cool, but pleasant conditions members enjoyed the outing with some very competitive scores indeed.

Paul McCarragher recorded a nett 62 to win A Division comfortably from Dave Robinson with 68 nett, second on a countback from Norm Plath.  Mark McAulay won the encouragement award for hitting the ball extremely often!

In B Division Larry Pershouse won with nett 67 from Len Stallard, winning second with 69 nbett on a countback from Rusy Usmar who placed third.  Frank Rockett joined Mark to win the encouragement award for B Division. 

Val Plath won the women's divisoin with nett 69 from Joy Cartner on 71 nett, with Joan Kelly third with 72.  Sue Long won the encouragement award.

For the men, Dave Robinson won the approach on 1 & 10 and Ray Walker on 4 & 13 (in the hole).  Marg Dennett and Vicki McAulay won the women's approaches.

Paul McCarragher led the Chook Run winners with nett 29, followed by Ron Denny on 31, Norm Plath and Larry Pershouse both on 32, Ted Buckland on 33 and Len Stallard with 34 on a spin!  Blake Dowling joined the vets for the Chook Run and his 33 gross plus one meant he almost won a chicken.  One trophy he has yet to win!

Juniors

After a three week recess Junior Golf begins with a bang this weekend with the Junior Club Championships starting this Saturday.  The Championships will run over three weeks with 6, 9 and 13 holes being contested.  Nine and thirteen holers to start at 7:00am while 6 holers start at 7:30am.  Good luck to those competing. 

In other news Juniors will travel away to represent Wide Bay Juniors at the Queensland School State Titles this weekend.  Blake Dowling & Sophie Martell will represent High Schools, while Will Martell has made the Primary Schools Team.  The Championships will be held at Oxley Golf Club just south of Brisbane City.  Good luck to all those golfers.

Over the School Holidays several players played in the Bargara Junior Classic with Blake Dowling finishing third in the open division.  Sophie Martell finished with the second best nett score over the three days. Other players to perform well were Curtis Fredriksen and Wesley Hinton.
