Golf Notes 16 December 2014

Last Thursday, the ladies enjoyed their Christmas lunch at Vintners Secret Winery, a great success by all accounts. This Thursday in the final competition of the golfing year, members will play a single stableford over just nine holes with time for socialising after the game.

Women

Last Thursday, the ladies enjoyed their Christmas lunch at Vintners Secret Winery, a great success by all accounts.  This Thursday in the final competition of the golfing year, members will play a single stableford over just nine holes with time for socialising after the game.

Remember that 18 hole BBB competitions will continue to be held each week during this holiday break.  Always check at the clubhouse.

Men

The final day of official competition for 2014 was again affected by consistent showers deterring many from enjoying what turned out to be a pleasant afternoon of golf, for those who competed in the single stableford competition.

Roger Draper's score of 34 in difficult conditions was enough for him to collect the major prize from Robyn Robinson on 33 points, with Kieth Rule winning 2nd runner up and Ken Albion the best nine holes.

Larry Pershouse and Mark Tedge won rundowns with Larry also nearest the pin with his approach on 1 & 10.

The incoming Committee members wish all members a safe and happy Christmas and wonderful golfing new year.  Remember each Tuesday and Saturday and most public holidays, the club hosts an 18 hole BBB competition for those who need their regular dose of golf to stay sane and healthy.

To all our sponsors during the year we say a special thanks for your continuing support and wish you the compliments of the season.

Vets

On Tuesday members returned to play the final of the Monthly VIP stroke competition without the rain of last week.  As it was also the last day of official competition, the VIP and stroke event were sponsored by Kieth, Larry, Bob & Nigel, ably assisted by their partners.

Larry Pershouse scorched around the course in 66 nett to become the VIP Champion for 2014.  Congratulations Larry and keep up with the 5 wood!

Michael Stanton scored 67 nett to win A Division from Ray Walker on 68, Barry Steinke on 70 and Kieth Rule on 71. Terry Smallman won B Division with 71 nett, followed by Ken Albion on 74, Kev Denham on 76 and Mick Ryan on 79.

Rae McCliskie won the Women's division with 69 nett, from Joy Cartner on 70, Marg Dennett and Val Plath, both o 72.  Paul McCarragher made no mistake winning the approach on 1 & 10 (in the hole).  Dave Robinson won the pinshot on 4 & 13, 4 metres from the hole and Rae McCliskie the ladies approach on 6, 51 cms from the hole.

The Chook Run winners were Joy Cartner, Michael Stanton, Ray Walker and Rae McCliskie all on 32 nett, Col Dennett and Bill Herring both on 33 (on spins).

The Vet's President and Committee wish all Vets a safe and happy Christmas to return recharged in 2015.  Remember though, and 18 hole BBB competition will continue over the holiday season.

Juniors

Three of our juniors travelled to Robina on the Gold Coast to contest the Invitational Greg Normal Junior Masters.  This event has players from seven countries and all states of Australia.  In total 220 players started the event.  The three players were Blake Dowling, Will Martell & Sophie Martell.  At the time of writing only three of the four rounds had been played.  Blake Dowling had played sensational golf in the first three days to card rounds of 1 under, 3 over and 4 over, to be tied equal sixth and only 5 shots from the lead with one day to play.  This tops off a great year for Blake having already won or placed highly in several junior state wide events throughout the year.

The first two days were played under particularly trying conditions, with blustery winds and squally rains interrupting the day.  Will Martell was placed mid field in the under 13 division, but was good enough to be the best performed 11 year old in the field.  A great effort for his first invitation to this event.   This was Sophie Martell's second year but unfortunately Sophie did not have the best of carnivals finding the conditions a little too difficult.
