Women

On Thursday the ladies travelled to Burrum to enjoy the hospitality there as the greens were being cored at home. No scores were reported.  This Thursday, the competition will be determined before the game.

On Saturday in the Vets’ sponsored single stableford, Joy Cartner won with 32 points on a countback from Cynthia Draper, with rundowns to Fiona Dowling, Val Plath and Lisa Cooney. Cynthia also won the approach on 6&15.

A very big thankyou to the Vets for their generous prizes and tasty after-game snack, and especially to Vicki McAulay for her preparation and presentation.

Next Saturday we enjoy a single stableford again.

Men

The Vets sponsored the single stableford competition on Saturday. On the newly cored, sanded and fertilised greens, some members found it difficult to reach the hole, while others made it look easy.

In A Division Bill Herring led with 35 points from Niel Rieck on 34, with rundowns to Ivan Philpott and Ray Walker, both with 33 points.

In B Division recent hole in one player, Bob Champney, romped home with 41 points from Garry Willoughby on 38, with rundowns to Phil Pearce on 35 and Dean Page on 34 points.

Chris Crouch scored his first eagle since his return on number 2 hole.

Damien Dowling (2.7m) won the A Division pinshot on 1&10, while Ben Van Der Valk (2.0m) won the B Division approach. Chris While (2.4m) won the A Division pinshot on 4&13, with Len Stallard (2.9m) winning the B Division pinshot.

All members appreciated the array of trophies and the fine cuisine, with a special thank you to Vicki McAulay.

Although a stroke versus par competition had been suggested, it has been replaced by the more appealing single stableford next Saturday.

Vets

The V.I.P. monthly stroke sponsored by the Volgyesis and McAulays, including the final round of competition for the Jan Mungomery salver, was also a ‘special events’ day for Golf Australia’s month of golf in October – every participant has the chance to enter a draw for a range of prizes.

In Men’s A Division Dean Page with nett 63 won from Kieth Rule on 70, followed by Niel Rieck (73(, Phil Luckett (74) and Nigel Radin (75).

Peter Hutton with 67 nett won from Barry Steinke on 69, followed by Len Stallard (72), Garry Willoughby (72) and Ray Burrowes (74).

Lisa Cooney won the Ladies’ Division with 70 nett on a countback from Vicki Wyeth, followed by Joy Cartner, Jenny McKay and Val Plath.

Most use of the course went to Ben Van Der Valk, no score published to avoid embarrassment.

Ladies’ approaches were won by: Joy (3.9m) on 4&13; Vicki McAulay (1.4m) on 6&15. The Men’s approaches were won by: Peter Hrelja (0.24m) on 1&10; Mark McAulay (3.66m) on 15.

Four players all recorded 29 nett to win in the Chook Run: Val Plath, Peter Hutton, Dean Page and Vicki Wyeth, with Lisa Cooney receiving the last birds with a nett 31.

Next week we return to the familiar and friendly single stableford competition. See you at noon for the hit-off.
