Golf Notes 19 August 2014

The usual Thursday competition was cancelled as it coincided with the club hosting the annual Wide Bay District Vet's fourball best ball event. Most members played in that competition very successfully as shown in the Vet's notes.

Women

The usual Thursday competition was cancelled as it coincided with the club hosting the annual Wide Bay District Vet's fourball best ball event.  Most members played in that competition very successfully as shown in the Vet's notes.

On Saturday a few hardy players joined in the single stableford competition but none completed the 18 holes, as the results in the men's notes show.  This Saturday we join with the men in the IGA sponsored single stableford competition.  See you there!

Men

With many members put off by the threatening rain, a small but competitive field set off to play the single stableford competition instead of the planned match play which was again postponed until further notice.

Some players left after nine holes as the rain increased but a hardy few persevered, with Blake Dowling winning with 37 points from John Hinton on a countback.  Rundowns went to Neale Mittelheuser and Clinton Dowling.  Adrian Martin won the best nine with 20 points and also the approach on 1 & 10.

This Saturday, instead of the advertised Home Hardware sponsorship (to be held later), IGA is sponsoring a single stableford competition.  The recent rain should have the course nearing it's best.

Vets

Wide Bay District Vets Golf Carnival

Isis Vets members were outstanding in the annual fourball best ball stableford, when Isis hosted this event last Thursday.  The highlight of the day was a hole in one on number 4 for Col Dennett.  He awaits the return of the ball which did the trick, mounted appropriately.

Vicki Wyeth and Margaret Dennett combined extremely well to record an unbeatable 52 points, with Jeff Slocombe and Lou Jessen next on 46 points, edging Col Dennett and Ray Burrows into third place.  Vicki McAulay and Val Plath came in fourth on a countback.

Jeff also won a pinshot on 1 & 10 with Col's hole in one guaranteeing him the pinshot on 4 & 13.  Marg Dennett took the ladies approach on 1 & 10, and Helen Ricciardi on 4 & 13.

A very enjoyable day with many appreciative comments about the culinary delights offered by June, Jan & Barb.  Thank you on behalf of all players.

On Tuesday, Col and Marg Dennett sponsored the Monthly VIP stroke competition, coinciding with the fourth round of the competition for the Jan Mungomery Salver.

The outright VIP winner was Bob Cochrane with an impressive nett score of 66.  In A Division Dave Robinson won with 70 nett from Garry Carlon on 72 and Nigel Radin on 73. In B Division Roger Draper won with a nett 70 followed by Adrian Martin and Ray Burrows with 76 each.

Val Plath won the Women's Division with 71 nett from Rose Cochrane on 73 and Joan Kelly on 77.

Approach shot winners were for the ladies, Cynthia Draper on 1 & 10 and Rose Cochrane on 4 & 13. For the men Craig Reynolds put one in the hole on 1 & 10 and Mark McAulay rounded off the approaches on 4 & 13.

Bob Cochrane led the Chook Run winners with 30 nett from Nigel Radin, Val Plath, Phil Luckett, Dave Robinson and Rose Cochrane who won the last chicken on a spin from 6 others!

Back to normal next Tuesday with a single stableford competition.  Be early for the 12 noon hit off.
