Women

The Thursday two person Ambrose resulted in a win for Joan Wright and Coralie Volgyesi with a very fine score of 59 and a half.  This week we play a single stroke competition.

Members joined the men in a fourball best ball on Saturday, with the results for that competition reported in the men's notes.

The Club Championships begin this weekend and cover this and the following weekend.  A couple of challengers fancy their chances against defending champion Cynthia Draper, but with to remain anonymous for obvious reasons.

Hit off time is 12:30pm on Saturday.  Remember each day there is also a distinct, separate competition with club trophies to be won.

Men

The first fourball best ball competition for quite some time was tightly contested, with close if not high scores.  Countbacks were the order of the day, with Michael Stanton and Bob Champney's 43 points sufficient to win on a countback from Clinton Dowling & Robyn Robinson, runners up on a countback from Val Plath and Cynthia Draper who led the countdowns.

They were followed by Kieth Rule and Larry Pershouse, Blake Dowling and Neale Mittelheuser, Ivan Philpott and Roger Draper (42), with Joan Wright and Michael Hickey and John Hinton and Will Martell collecting last rundowns on 41 points.

No A Division player made the green on 1 & 10, but Bob Champney did and then putted his approach close enought to win the B Division approach.  Craig Reynolds landed his pinshot 2.6 metres from the hole on 4 & 13 to claim the A Division prize, while Bob Werne was 4.95 metres from the hole to win the B Division pinshot.  Joan Wright won the ladies' approach on 4 & 13.

The Club Championships begin this weekend and cover this and the following weekend.  As usual the Dowling males will be challenging one another and the rest of the A Grade field, with defending champion Clinton Dowling very unwilling to surrender the Champion's cup.

Hit off time is 12:30pm on Saturday.  Remember each day there is also a distinct, separate competition with club trophies to be won.

Vets

The always welcome monthly VIP competition (sponsored by Michael Stanton) combined with the first round of the Jan Mungomery Salver attracted a strong field of players.

The A Division winner was Kev Savage with a fine nett 67, with Larry Pershouse runner up on 69.  2nd runner up was Kieth Rule on 71, which saw Dave Robinson on 73 nett squeezing into 3rd runner up.

Roger Draper scored 69 nett to win B Division from Kev Denham on 71.  Len Stallard was 2nd runner up on 73, with Frank Rockett claiming 3rd runner up on a countback.

For the women, Rose Cochrane led the way with 73 nett from Joy Cartner one shot back.  Visitor Phil Mitchell and Sue Long claimed the other runner up prizes.

The approaches on 1 & 10 were won by Bob Werne (in the hole) and Joy Cartner.  On 4 & 13 Col Dennett and Rose Cochrane (both in the hole) took the prize, while on 6 & 15 Rusty Usmar (6 cm from the hole) and Cynthia Draper (in the hole) picked up those approaches.

Bob Werne led the way in the Chook Run with 30 nett from Larry Pershouse and Bob Champney (31), Michael Stanton and Ed Connell (32), Kev Denham and Kev Savage (33).

We won't mention Bob Cochrane's most use of the course gross score.  Rather we celebrate the wide list of prizes presented by Michael for the winners and our thanks to the caterer for the tasty after game snack.

Next week we return for a single stableford competition.  See you there for a 12 noon hit off.

Juniors

Last weekend completed a huge month of Junior Golf with Isis hosting the 3rd round of the Wide Bay Junior Circuit.  85 junior players came together from the Wide Bay Region.  Isis golfers did exceptionally well in several categories.  The big winner on the day was Mitch Anderson who took out the Division One Boys event with the best gross score of the day - 76! Mitch played superb golf, especially on the first 9 turning on 1 over, and ended up 4 shots clear of team mate Blake Dowling, who had an 80 off the stick. A great result with Isis taking out 1st and 2nd prizes in the carnival.

In the Division 2 event, Isis players also took out some major prizes.  Will Martell finished 2nd in the event while Travis Mittelheuser won the Nett event with 71.  Travis also won the pinshot on hole one with a brilliant tee shot.

These results indicate that the upcoming Club Championships will be very closely contested with all our Junior Boys playing well.

In the 13 hole event, Curtis Fredriksen played exceptionally wekk to win the Nett event.  Curtis played 7 shots under his handicap to win convincingly.  In the 9 hole girls event Kaitlyn Carige played a below par round to be runner up in the Nett event.  In the 6 hole boys event Wesley Hinton continued his winning way with a 30 off the stick to win the event overall.  Apart from all our winners and place getters Isis had 16 Juniors represent the Club on the day which was a phenomenal effort.

On Saturday Craig Swift, Professional from Bundaberg held a coaching clinic which was very well received.  This weekend Saturday morning golf resumes with 9 & 13 holers to start at 7:00am for a stroke round, while 6 holers to start at 7:30am.

See you there!
