Men & Women

2014 Opening Day attracted a large field of 60 players including a number of new members and hopefuls in pursuit of the free membership on offer.  Russo Brothers sponsored the 2 person Ambrose competition played in pleasant conditions with a gentle breeze cooling the afternoon sun.

Joy Cartner open the new season with a deft straight drive off the first tee with a shotgun start then to begin the day's play.  Blake Dowling and Mitchell Anderson returned a nett score of 61.5 to clain the golfer/golfer winning trophy from new members Brendan Rockett and Steve Crawford on 62 nett, with Helen Ricciardi and Tracey Bartlett third on 64.25.

Graeme and Stacey Anderson recorded the best score of the day with 60.25 nett, to win the golfer/non golfer trophy from Brett Martell and John HInton on 62.5 with Mark McAulay and Troy Blinco third on 70.5.

Rundowns in the golfer/golfer section went to Damian Dowling and Travis Mittelheuser (64.75), John Cole and Norm Plath (65), Bill Herring and Craig Reynolds (65.25) and Neil Rieck and Kurt Henke (66).

Pinshots went to Len Stallard on 1 & 10, Di Rowley on 6 and Clinton Dowling and Steve Crawford on 4 & 13.

After the excellent post game delicacies prepared by Narelle Russo and the presentation of prizes, the draw for the free membership resulted in Ken Packenas winning that prize, much to his delight!

Members agreed it had been a wonderful start to the 2014 season with high expectations for the rest of the year.  Next Saturday a single stroke competition is on offer in preparation for the following week's Monthly Medal & Goblet, the first for the year.

The Women's official competiton begins next Thursday as published in their calendar with today's competition still available for those who turn up.  All welcome!

A Reminder: The usual BBB stableford competition will be offered on the Australia Day public holiday this Monday January 27, to start at 12:30pm.

Vets

The first event for 2014 was the VIP stroke competition sponsored by Dave and Robyn Robinson.  The competition was a great way to open our 2014 season with a strong contingent hitting off at 12 noon.

Ray Walker led the way in the men's A Division recording a nett 65, the only player to better par on the day.  In a 3 way tie for 2nd place on 71, Mick Hickey became first runner up on a countback from Col Dennett who became 2nd runner up on a countback from Michael Stanton.

In the Men's B Division, scores were not so low, with Mark McAulay's 72 nett enough to win from Roger Draper on 73 who was 1st runner up on a countback from Kev Denham, with Bob Champney claiming 3rd runner up with 75 also on a countback.

Joy Cartner continued her winning streak with her 76 nett enough to win on a countback from Joan Kelly, with Cynthia Draper 2nd runner up on nett 77, on a countback from Vicki Wyeth.

Rose Cochrane placed her second shot hearest the hole to win the women's approach, while Ken Albion put his second shot in the hole to be there first in the men's approach (sorry Bob).

With such a large field, nine lucky players earned themselves a chicken: Rose Cochrane, Ray Walker (33), Peter Steel (34), Bill Herring, Bob Werne, Vicki Wyeth (35), Phil Luckett, Will Martell and Cynthia Draper (36) on spins.

A wonderful start to the Vet's season thanks to Robyn and Dave.  May there be many more such days, continuing with a mystery fourball next Tuesday, hitting off as usual at 12:00 noon.
