Golf Notes 23 September 2014

VIcki Wyeth again won the single stableford with 34 points from Coralie Volgyesi on 31 points, in a small field.

Women

VIcki Wyeth again won the single stableford with 34 points from Coralie Volgyesi on 31 points, in a small field.  This week we will again decide the competition before we hit off.

Like the men, the women struggled to equal or better par in the single stableford competition sponsored by Craig Swift.  34 points was the best score, recorded by both Cynthia Draper and Fional Dowling, with Cynthia winning on a countback.  Helen Ricciardi won the best nine with 18 points, while Robyn Robinson scored a rundown.  Cynthia again showed her accuracy around and on the green putting her approach shot in the hole for a birdie.

This week we join the men in the President vs Captain Teams Matchplay with a draw for places on either team and for opponents as well.

See the men's notes for information about the 'pink ball' competition on Sunday.

Men

Craig Swift sponsored the single stableford competition on a day where no golfers equalled or bettered par, with no obvious reason for the poor scores.

In A Division Marc Harper won with 34 points from Ray Walker on 32, with Craig Reynolds winning the best nine with a score of 17 points.  Rundowns went to Damien Dowling, Michael Hickey and Mark Tedge.  Damien also scored an egale on number 15!

In B Division Mark McAulay also recorded 34 points to win from Roger Draper on 31 points with Larry Pershouse easily winning the best nine holes with 19 points.  Ivan Philpott, Ken Albion and Terry Smallman collected rundowns.

Damien Dowling won the pinshot on 1 & 10 while Michael Stanton and Terry Smallman won pinshots on 4 & 13.

This Saturday the long overdue President versus Captain Matchply will take place.  All single match play qualifiers are requested to complete one of their rounds at the same time.  It is hoped that forfeits are kept to a minimum.  Other players will be in a draw for a team and an opponent.

The Committee urges members to arrange teams of 3 to play in the 'pink ball' competition run by our local Social Club on Sunday, with proceeds going to the Cancer Council Fund.  Hit off at 9:00am with lunch to follow after the game.  Names should be in to Jan by Thursday for catering purposes.

Vets

The weather appeared to deter some Vets from the afternoon's single stableford competition but a competitive field enjoyed an almost shower free afternoon.

The outright winner for the afternoon was Mark McAulay whose 38 points were hard to beat.  Barry Steinke was the A Division winner with 37 points from runner up Phil Luckett on 36 points, with Nigel Radin's 22 points earning him the best nine hole score.

Len Stallard won B Division with 35 points from Roger Draper on 34, with Coralie Volgyesi winning the best nine holes.  Coralie also won the Ladies' approach putting her second shot in the hole on 6 & 15.  Col Dennett won the men's approach on 4 & 13, but not quite as close as Coralie.

Approach winners were: Marc Harper in A Division, Mick Ryan in B Division (both in the hole) and Cynthia Draper with .38 metres from the hole.

Chook Run winners were led by Nigel Radin on 29 nett, from Ken Albion and Mark McAulay both with 31, Bill Herring and Craig Reynolds who both had 33 nett.

Next week stroke versus par is programmed.  See you there for a 12 noon hit off.

A reminder: Pink Ball day for Cancer is on Sunday.  Names need to be in by Thursday if possible for catering purposes.
