Men's Open Carnival

A great weekend for the Isis Golf Club culminated in a highly successful Men's Open Carnival on Sunday with 80 players from Isis and surrounding Wide Bay clubs competing in the teams and individual events.

Unfortunately Isis couldn't repeat it's winning performances of last year, with the Maryborough team of D Haberman, R Newton, C Backer, H Smith & A Gees claiming both the esteemed Isis Cup (first played for in 1936), with the best gross score and the Isis Central Mill Shield with the best nett score - congratulations to the team.

In the 18 hole gross events, Scott Warren from Gin Gin, again proved his expertise winning the A Division with a one under par 69 from R Newton of Maryborough on 73.  T Elliott from Biggenden won B Division on 82, on a countback from I McDuff of Hervey Bay.  C Division winner was M Barnes from Bundaberg on 83 from I Gabbert of Gin Gin on 88.

In the nett events, H Smith of Maryborough recorded 67 nett to win A Division from S Aitcheua of Bundaberg, runner up on a countback with 69 nett.  Peter Steel was the home club's first winner in B Division scoring 66 nett for a clear victory from B Cuthbertson of Biggenden on 68 nett.  Ex Isis Travis Mittelheuser of Bargara with 71 nett won on a countback from another Isis player in Kev Denham.

The special award for the Vets Player of the day went to Peter Steel for his score of 66 nett.

Pinshots went to Clinton Dowling in A Division on 1 & 10 and R Newton on 4 & 13.  D Millar from Hervey Bay in B Division won the pinshot on 1 & 10 and K Shaw from Gin Gin on 4 & 13.  No C Division player made it to either green with their first shot.

Certainly a great day for the Club with the trophies spread around among our associated clubs.  Thanks go to those many helpers who organised the day, the luncheon and after game platters.

Women

Diane Rowley won the single stableford competition with 33 points from Coralie Volgyesi on 32.  Lisa Cooney took out the best nine holes with 19 points.  Coralie was also nearest the pin with her approach on 4 & 13.

This Thursday we play a single stroke with hit off at 8:30am.

As the Saturday women joined the men in the combined 4BBB, results are in the men's section.

Next Saturday members play in the Isis Mill Traders 3 person ambrose.  Hit off is at 11:30am.

Men

On Saturday both men and women members played in a fourball best ball stableford with partners drawn by the Captain.  To the surprise of many playing with different partners and members in their groups provided a different but very pleasant experience.

Bill Cowan combined well with Robyn Robinson to compile 45 points, with Kev Savage and Mark McAulay runners up on 44 points.  Rundowns went to Roger Draper and Vicki McAulay and Helen Ricciardi and Sophie Martell with both pairs on 42 points.

Clinton Dowling claimed the A Division pinshot on 1 & 10, Bill Cowan on 4 & 13, with no Division B player claiming either hole.  Cynthia Draper won the women's approach on 4 & 13 and Vicki McAulay on 6 & 15.

This Saturday is Isis Mill Traders Day with all team positions filled.  Remember the early hit off at 11:30am.

Vets

On Tuesday, Vets enjoyed their favourite competition with a single stableford.

In a day of low scoring, Nigel Radin played well to record 38 points to be the overall winner for the round.  In A Division Niel Rieck won with 36 points from Phil Luckett on 34.  Best nine holes went to Norm Plath on 19 points.

Scott White was B Division winner with 35 points on a countback from Kev Denham, Coralie Volgyesi winning the best nine with 20 points.

Ted Buckland led the chook run winners with 31 nett, from Kev Denham on 32, Barry Steinke & Niel Rieck on 33, and Nigel Radin & Ken Albion both on 34.

This Tuesday March 31 members play for a single stableford again. See you there for the 12 noon hit off.
