This Thursday is the play off for Monthly Goblet winners during the year.  On Saturday Fiona Dowling continued the Dowling family triumphs winning the stroke competition with nett 73 from Val Plath on 75. Fiona also won the approach on 4 & 13.

The winners of the Saturday Monthly Goblet during the year will contest a final for the winner of the year.  These players are:

  • Helen Ricciardi
  • Sophie Martell
  • Fiona Dowling
  • Joy Cartner
  • Cynthia Draper and
  • Robyn Robinson

As with the men these players will be part of the Calcutta to be auctioned by Bill Trevor in his inimitable style after the presentations of awards to all Championship winners of 2014.

We look foward to a large number of members present at the Awards night on Friday, to begin at 6:00pm.  Please bring a plate of food, which can be savoury or sweet.

Men

Members played a single stroke competition on Saturday afternoon.  The hot weather obviously deterred some of the members so once again players were grouped into one division.  It was Damien Dowling's day as he parred the course to record a gross 69, nett 67! His father Clinton was runner up on 70, but scored an eagle on number 2 and earned himself his first eagle's badge.

Rundowns went to Jack Smith on 71, Craig Reynolds on 73, on a countback from Kev Savage.  Vince Kennedy won the B Division approach on 1 & 10, while Damien completed his day by winning the A Division pinshot on 4 & 13.

During the week Peter Steel held on to win the singles Seb's Matchply final, one up over Larry Pershouse which reversed the result of last year.  Congratulations Peter.

Next Saturday Monthly Medal winners play for the honour of being the Medal of Medallists winner for 2014.  Those vying for the honour are the following:

  • Mitchell Anderson
  • Luke Mittelheuser
  • Will Martell
  • Larry Pershouse
  • Bill Kingston
  • Clinton Dowling
  • Travis Mittelheuser
  • Phil Luckett
  • Jeff Freeman
  • Dave Robinson
  • Gary Carlon
  • Norm Plath
  • Ray Walker, and
  • Peter Hutton

They will be joined by non winning members in a club sponsored single stroke competition.

On the Friday evening before the playoff the Club celebrates Awards Night with presentation to all championship winners during the year, followed by a Calcutta, with auctioneering by the inventive Bill Trevor.  The evening begins at 6:00pm with a supper traditionally by members bringing a plate of food - savoury or sweet.

The Club held a 'come and try day' on Sunday with invited non members joining us for a free 3 person ambrose over 12 holes.  A small, but competitive field enjoyed the opportunity to play in this 'fun' competition.  The good guys won and were gracious winners - the steak sandwiches proved very popular.  Next year, even bigger and better!

Vets

Ed Connell & Terry Smallman easily won the secret pairs fourball stableford with a combined score of 75 points.  Runners up were Coralie Volgyesi and Ray Walker on 70, on a countback from Rose Cochrane and Garry Carlon.

Nigel Radin win the men's approach and Joy Cartner the women's.

In the Chook Run, five players each scorred 33 nett to win themselves a chicken.  They were: Rose Cochrane, Joy Cartner, Barry Steinke, Peter Hutton & Len Stallard.

Next Tuesday we play a single stableford with hit off at the normal 12 noon.

A reminder to all golfers, a Callaway representative is visiting the Club this Friday, so if you wish to join him for a session call Jan today!
