Opening Day 2015

The Peter Russo family sponsored opening day attracted a large number to begin the official golfing year.  The two person Ambrose, the traditional competition for the day, involved quite a few golfer/non golfer pairings as well as golfer/golfer groups.

Prior to Blake Dowling hitting the first ball of the season - what a shot - members met in a special general meeting to determine the final membership of the Management Committee.  The full list is now available at the Clubhouse and on the website.  As well the members paid tribute to long serving and still playing member Ron Denny, giving him an honorary membership.

Members also paid tribute to life member Allan Royan, standing for a minute's silence in his honour and reflecting on his dedication and contributions to the club in so many ways, over so many years.

The Ambrose competition provided the opportunity for members to invite friends or family to participate and have the opportunity to win a free membership if they have never been a member of the club.

Blake Dowling with partner Talea Loeskow won the golfer/non golfer competition with 59 nett from Peter Hrelja and Kerry Schnack, with John Hinton and Troy Blinco third.  Rundowns went to Max and Clive Henke.

Cecily Fay and Greg Dalglish won the golfer/golfer competition with 62 nett from Will Martell and Damien Dowling on 63, and Fiona & Clinton Dowling 63.75 taking our third.  Rundowns went to Kieth Rule & Nigel Radin and Brett Martell & Kev Savage.

Approach shots were won by: Clinton & Fiona on 1 & 10, Tracey Bartlett & Merryn Henke on 6 & 15, Blake & Talea on 4 & 13 and Joan Wright & Cynthia Draper claiming the women's approach on 1 & 10.

Congratulations to all those who shared in the prizes and also to Troy Blinco who won the free membership for 2015, after a redraw of eligible non-members.

Thanks again to Peter & Narelle Russo for sponsoring the day so generously.  This Saturday is a club event, with the competition to be a single stableford before the following week's first monthly medal for the year.

Vets

The Vets opening day attracted a healthy crowsd with keen competition for the many prizes offered by sponsors of the VIP Monthly Stroke event, Dave & Robyn Robinson.

Only 2 players bettered par for the day, both in men's A Division.  Winner was Kieth Rule on 67 and Norm Plath runner up on 69.  Bob Werne won the B Division on 72 nett, after a blistering first nine holes, with runner up Roger Draper on 74 on a countback from Vince Kennedy.

Cynthia Draper won the women's competition with 70 nett ahead of runner up Val Plath on 77. Kieth also claimed the men's approach and Cynthia the women's.

Chook Run winners were: Bob Werne 28 nett, Cynthia Draper, Nigel Radin, Kev Savage, Peter Hrelja & Norm Plath all on 33, wit Joan Kelly on 33 the only one to miss out.

Dave & Robyn were duly honoured for the generous array of prizes and the delicious goodies served up after the round was completed.

Next week we return to our staple diet, a single stableford.  See you there for the 12 noon hit off.
