Golf Notes 29 November 2016

On last Thursday the ladies played the final of the Monthly Medal winners for the year, with Kerry Schnack winning with 68 nett from Margaret Dennett on 75, second on a countback from Lisa Cooney. Cecily Fay (0.82m) won the ladies’ approach.

Presentation Evening

Thank you to those members, family and friends, who ventured out to make the evening a very successful one for our junior and adult members receiving trophies. A special thank you to the men who prepared the room (and bar) in advance; to the members who managed to arrive with a plate of delicacies (such a range); to those who prepared the repast; and to those who manned the bar and fulfilled the many other duties of the night.

To Nigel, thanks also for being the MC for the evening and a special thanks to our Deputy Mayor, Bill Trevor, whose performance in auctioneering off the Monthly Medal winners was, as usual, the highlight of the evening.

Women

On last Thursday the ladies played the final of the Monthly Medal winners for the year, with Kerry Schnack winning with 68 nett from Margaret Dennett on 75, second on a countback from Lisa Cooney.  Cecily Fay (0.82m) won the ladies’ approach.

As stated in the Men’s notes above, with play having to be abandoned on Saturday and resumed on Sunday, this meant, unfortunately, that a couple of players failed to return and complete their rounds.

Monica Madsen with nett 76 claimed the trophy from Joan Kelly and Joan Wright. Coralie Volgyesi won the approach shot on 6&15.

Next week after the AGM we join with the men in playing the traditional Tiger Stableford.

Men

A heavy downpour early in the Medal of Medallists’ playoff on Saturday forced players from the field. When it persisted for the next hour the Match Committee decided to stop play for the day and continue the round the following day, weather and course conditions permitting.

With a fine sunny morning on Sunday, players resumed wherever they had ended the previous day.  The heavier conditions made playing a little more difficult but John Hinton bettered par with a nett 69 to claim the trophy in what will be one of the few times left for him as he leaves for Brisbane soon.

Kev Savage played consistently to record nett 70 and be the runner-up ahead of Ken Albion on 73. Rundowns went to Phil Pearce, Roger Draper and Larry Pershouse. Nigel Radin (1.91m) was the only player to win an approach or pinshot, winning on 4&13.

Sadly some players were unable to return to complete their round on Sunday and we offer our commiserations to them and to those who sponsored them.

This Saturday is our A.G.M. to start at 11:a.m.sharp. All members are urged to attend the meeting and of course to stay and enjoy the traditional Tiger Stableford to follow.

Vets

The four ball best ball format proved quite popular with many pairings, three pairs all recording 46 stableford points. There can only be one winning team which consisted of Kieth Rule and Ben Van Der Valk, winning on a countback from Ray Walker and Ted Buckland, second on a countback from Norm Plath and Joan Wright.

Dean Page (0.105m) was nearest the pin with his approach on 1&10; Mark McAulay (in the hole) nearest the pin on 4&13; and Coralie Volgyesi (0.58m) nearest the pin on 6&15.

Ray Walker led the Chook Run winners, followed by Monica Madsen, Joan Wright, Norm Plath and Ted Buckland.
Next week we play the final of the V.I.P. winners during the year, sponsored by Nigel, Kieth, Larry and Bob. An overflow competition will also run.

Numbers for the end-of-season lunch have grown considerably. Is your name there for December 14?
