Golf Notes 14 June 2016

Fiona Dowling continued her consistent form with a final round of 82 to clinch the Women's Championship, with a total gross score of 331, from runner up Cynthia Draper.

Women's Championships

Fiona Dowling continued her consistent form with a final round of 82 to clinch the Women's Club Championship, with a total gross score of 331, from runner up Cynthia Draper.

Kerry Schnack also scored well to win the B Grade Championship from Joy Cartner, while Val Plath won the C Grade Championship.  Vicki McAulay won the A Grade Nett, Monica Madsen the B Grade Nett and Jennifer McKay took out the C Grade nett.

The draw for the single Match Play Championship based on the nett scores from the Championships will be posted on the notice board.

Men's Championships

The postponed final round of the Club Championships and Monthly Medal for June were played on Saturday with fairly predictable results.

Clinton Dowling maintained his steady form to win the A Grade Gross and Open Championship with a score of 301 over the four rounds, with son Damien runner up.  Peter Russo became the B Grade Champion with a gross of 367, from Peter Hutton.  In C Grade Larry Pershouse won with a gross of 367 from Jeff Freeman.

Craig Reynolds won the A Grade nett with 288 from Nigel Radin, Bill Kingston the B Grade nett with 295 from Norm Plath and Ken Albion the C Grade nett with 295 from Laszlo Volgyesi.

The draw for the 16 players in the single match play event is posted in the clubhouse.  This event earns the winner the Seb & Allan's Memorial Trophy donated by Sue Royan in honour of her late father and husband, both former life members of our Club.

The first round of match play should be completed on or before the President vs Captain's Match Play event on Saturday July 09.

Monthly Medals

Women| Coralie Volgyesi with 70 nett won this month's medal from Fiona Dowling on 71, with rundowns to Vicki McAulay also on 71.  Vicki (in the hole) claimed the approach on 6 & 15.

Following on from their Monthly Medal the week before, the ladies on Thursday played a single stableford won by Diane Rowley with 38 points, from Coralie Volgyesi on 37.  Margaret Dennett and Vicki Wyeth both recording .79 for their second shot to share the ladies' approach.

Men| Nigel Radin won the Men's A Division June Monthly Medal with 70 nett, from Craig Reynolds on 71.  Ken Albion won the B Division medal with 68 nett from Larry Pershouse on 70.  Rundowns went to Jeff Freeman on 71 and Clinton Dowling on 72.

Clinton won the Men's A Division pinshot on 1 & 10, while Harry Zawacki won the B Division approach.  Bill Herring won the A Division pinshot on 4 & 13, and Dean Page won the B Division pinshot on the same hole.

Congratulations to all winners and to all those who participated in the Championships.  A special thanks to those who once again provided a variety of tasty snacks to conclude the events and to June for arriving early and laying the essential foundations.

Next week all returns to normal with a friendly sociable game of stableford, with hit off at 12:30pm.  No after game feast on offer, but we still offer a 'Happy Hour' after the game.

Vets

Vets enjoyed a Par Competition on Tuesday, with low scores the order of the day. Kieth Rule with plus 2 was the A Division winner from Peter Hutton on plus 1, 2nd on a countback from Laurie Daley.

Darryl Johnstone on plus 1 won the B Division on a countback from Wayne Faulkner, with Laszlo Volgyesi on square placing 3rd on a countback from Doug McCosker.

Craig Reynolds won the men's approach on 1 & 10, Phil Luckett the combined approach on 4 & 13 and Cynthia Draper the ladies approach on 6 & 15.

Ray Burrowes with 30 nett led the chook run winners from Lisa Cooney, Vicki McAulay, Keith Rule all on 31, with Nigel Radin on 32 claiming the last chicken.

The VIP Stroke play competition, combining the Jan Mungomery salver will be sponsored by the Drapers and Plaths next Tuesday.  See you there for the 12 noon hit off in this popular event.
