Golf Notes 22 March 2016

Last weekend we saw an extended weekend packed with three big events. The 3 person Ambrose on Saturday sponsored by Isis Mill Traders, the Men's Open Day on Sunday sponsored by House of Golf, and on Monday we hosted the Wide Bay Schools selection trials for juniors.

Women (Thursday)

Vicki McAulay with 72 nett won the single stroke event on last Thursday from Diane Rowley on 75, with a rundown to Joy Cartner on 76. Joan Kelly (3.3m) won the approach.

Next Thursday ladies will play a 4BBB.

Next Saturday and Monday we play in a club sponsored BBB for these public holidays.

Men and Women (Saturday)

Last weekend saw an extended weekend packed with three big events: the 3-Person Ambrose on Saturday sponsored by the Isis Mill Traders; the Men’s Open Day on Sunday sponsored by a strong perennial supporter in House of Golf; on Monday the club hosted the Wide Bay Schools selection trials for juniors.

The players were organised in groups for the 3-Person Ambrose. In Group 1 the gross winners were D. Robinson, R. Robinson and M. Stanton, with 61, ahead of C. and F. Dowling and T, Scotney on 64. The nett winners were S. Cole, T. Page and C. White, from N. Radin, B. Rocket and B. VanderVelk, with nett 62.

S. Anderson, K. Crouch and J. Findlay on 63 won the Group 2 gross with 63, from R. Crouch, A. Roser and D. Dowling on 64. Group 2 nett winners were M. Anderson, J. Manteit and K. Leggett, on 57, from P. Kitchen, I. Grills and R. Lowe on 60.

Group 3 gross winners were P. Hrelja, G. Wesche and G. Mears on 68, from H. Eberl, J. Jamison and H. Kirchner on 69. Nett winners were J. Smith, D. Jackson and B. Hawes on 58 from H. Ricciardi, M. Henke and L. Cooney on 62.

A highly successful day enjoyed by all both before, during and after the game. Thank you Isis Mill and Traders.

Men's Open Day (Sunday)

On Sunday in the Men’s Open, the Maryborough team won the Isis Cup with 314 gross, repeating their win when the Cup was originally donated by founding fathers 80 years ago. Isis won the nett event for the Isis Central Mill Shield with a total of 283.

In individual gross events the A Grade was won by T. Hall on 72 from P. Johnson on 73. J. Shield won the B Grade on 81 from G. Loveday on 83, while M. Barnes won C Grade with 85 from R. Nicol on 86.

In nett events, C. Reynolds with 66 won A Grade from P. Rogers on 67; A. Gees with 70 won B Grade on a countback from W. Chalmers; while K. Denham scored 66 to win C Grade from B> Blinco on 68.

Norm Plath with 70 won the Mary Sutton Memorial trophy for Vets with 70 nett.

On 1&10 the pinshots went to J. Knight (A), G. Kraatz (B) and N. Gibbs (C). On 4&13 they were won by D. Habermann (A) and P. Smith (B), while on number 6, the pinshots were won by M. Murnane (A), B. Brand (B) and B. Dingle (C).

Members and visitors expressed their appreciation for the well-prepared course and to the lady members who provided the tasty meals and sandwiches. Another successful day for the club.

This Saturday and Monday we have our BBBs, hitting off at 12:30 p.m.

A new venture begins on Saturday, April 9, with the introduction of a ‘Happy Hour’ to begin after trophy presentations and lead into a ‘Curry night’ prepared by resident chef, Michael Stanton. Wine drinkers please BYO. We hope this will become a monthly event.

Vets

In A Division, Mark McAulay won with 37 points from Craig Reynolds, second on 36, in a countback from Marg Dennett. 

Joan Wright with 40 points won B Division from Ted Buckland on 40 and Coralie Volgyesi third on 37 points.

The Men’s approach winner on 1&10 was Allan Ball (0.150m); the Combined winner on 4&13 was Vin Kennedy (0.100m); and the Ladies’ winner on 6&15 was Marg Dennett (i.t.h.).

Joan Wright (nett 26) led home the Chook Run winners from Rusty Usmar (30), Norm Plath, Vicki Wyeth (31), Ed Connell and Marg Dennett (32).

Next week we welcome members and visitors to our Vets’ Carnival for 2016. We hope all have nominated either for morning or afternoon.
