Golf Notes 26 January 2016

The Peter and Narelle Russo sponsored Ambrose competition for the opening day of the 2016 season began with a traditional drive off number one tee. This year our current men's champion Clinton Dowling did the honours, hitting his drive green side to begin the golfing year.

The Peter and Narelle Russo sponsored Ambrose competition for the opening day of the 2016 season began with a traditional drive off number one tee.  This year our current men's champion Clinton Dowling did the honours, hitting his drive green side to begin the golfing year.

Clinton then partnered William Galway, recording a 59 nett score to win the golfer/golfer competition by a large margin from runners-up Stephen Cole and Trevor Page, 2nd on a countback from Kev Savage and Len Stallard. Peter Hrelja and Leo Ricciardi won the golfer/non-golfer competition from Helen Ricciardi and Merryn Henke.

Rundowns went to Paul Royan and Fiona Dowling; Robyn Robinson and Vicki McAulay; Joy Cartner and Niel Rieck; Rodney Wagner and Joan Wright; Kieth Rule and Larry Pershouse.

Marlena Schlechtrien won the free membership for the year.

Peter and Narelle and some members provided tasty after-game snacks – much appreciated, with all agreeing that it had been an enjoyable day to begin the season.

Vets

The Vets also opened their season on Tuesday, with a V.I.P. Stroke Day sponsored by Dave and Robyn Robinson, with another large field celebrating the occasion.

Kev Savage won A Division with nett 34 from Norm Plath 2nd on 34.5 and Nigel Radin 3rd on 35.5 nett. In B Division Rusty Usmar won with nett 33.5 from Bill Kirchhof on 34.5 and Ray Burrowes on 35.5.

Joy Cartner won the Ladies’ Division with 35 nett from Kerry Schnack on 38½, with Marg Dennett 3rd on a countback from Vicki McAulay and Val Plath.

The approaches were won by: for the men on 1&10, Nigel Radin (0.79m); for the ladies, Fiona Dowling (0.09m); and in the Combined Approach, Bill Herring (0.30m).

Chook Run winners were led by Robyn Robinson (30 nett), Joy Cartner (31), Kevin Savage, Rusty Usmar (32), Craig Reynolds, Ken Albion and Bill Herring (33) on spins.

Dave and Robyn were warmly applauded for their generous prizes and tasty snacks.
